Vladimir Lait eyes another chess title

Vladimir Lait, a Grade 12 student of Mapua University, eyes another chess title when he competes in the January 2025 Nova Wellness Store Standard Chess Tournament to be held on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at the Met Live, Metro Park, EDSA Extension corner Pres. Diosdado Macapagal Blvd, Pasay City.

The Pasig City resident Lait is fresh from winning the Don Tomas Mapua Centennial Chess Cup presents GM Eugene Torre Rapid Tournament held at the Mapua Gymnasium in Muralla Street, Intramuros, Manila last January 18, 2025. Lait, scored perfect 7.0 points to secure the rapid chess title.

"I hope to perform well in the 2025 Nova Wellness Store Standard Chess Tournament," said Lait, who won the Rookie of the Year award in the NCAA Season 100 or the 2024–25 season of the National Collegiate Athletic Association chess team tournament.

Also competing are Emmanuel Barbosa, Gene Kenneth Estrellado, Jin Clark Myco Miranda, Ferdinand Palermo, Joel Obogne, Jay Fortunado, Israel Cohen, Kirk Anthony Vidad and Gener Subia.

The champion here will earn P10,000 in this 1-day event, organized by Kaizen Knights CD Chess Club and International Master Jan Emmanuel Garcia, backed up by Mr. Travis Vincent Chua, Nova Wellness Store and Starshots Coffee.-Marlon Bernardino-
