
Sherwin Tiu to defend title in Chess Pozorrubio rapid tiff

Sherwin Tiu will defend his title in the Pozorrubio Town Fiesta Rapid Chess Tournament at the 3rd floor Executive Building in Pozorrubio, Pangasinan on Saturday, January 11, 2025.
Tiu, Jerry Areque, Jason Rojo and Genghis Imperial are seeing action along with Precious Eve Ferrer, Atty. Reddy Ceralde Balarbar, Atty. Rodolfo "Rudy" Rivera Romy Fagon, Roadster and Regyne Palaming, Judylito Ulanday, Ormilito Ordizo and Fidel Labuanan in this event sponsored by Mayor Kelvin Tan, Vice Mayor Engineer Ernesto "Snooky" Salcedo III and SK Municipal Federation President/ SK Chairman Vince Karl Thirdy Sarmiento, in line with its grassroots chess development program.
"We are pleased to invite you to participate in the Pozorrubio Town Fiesta Rapid Chess Tournament. This prestigious event will bring together chess enthusiasts from various regions to compete, showcase their skills, and celebrate the spirit of the game," said Engr. Salcedo, who made the traditional ceremonial moves together with Asia's First Grandmaster Eugene Torre to usher the start of the Celebrity Challenge Chess For A Cause held at Black Crust Pizza in Santa Barbara, Pangasinan last December 10, 2023.
The champion here will run away with the lion’s share of P10,000.
The second to fifth placers will receive P5,000, P3,000, P2,000, and P1,000, respectively.
The sixth to tenth will receive P500 each while the 11th to 20th will claim P300 apiece.
The top five Pozorrubio will have a special prize of P2,000, P1,000, P800, P700, and P500 while 6th to 10th placers will earn P300 each.
The top four kiddies will earn P3,000, P2,000, P1,000 and P500 while the 5th to 10th placers will go home P300 each. The top Pozorrubio kiddies will likewise receive P500.
Filipino and United States chess master Almario Marlon Quiroz Bernardino Jr. will also hold a 20 board simultaneous chess exhibition matches at the same venue.
