Manila---Jeffrey De Luna of the Philippines advanced to the semifinals after he posted twin victories Friday, December 13, 2024 in the money-rich Qatar World Cup 10 Ball Championship at the Ezdan Palace Hotel in Doha, Qatar.
Fondly called the Bull in the billiard circuit, De Luna won over a pair on his way to the last four of the prestigious 10-ball competition, beating Albin Ouschan of Austria, 11-10, in the round-of-16 before prevailing over Ameer Ali of Iraq 11-10, in the quarterfinals.
Arnel Bautista and Aivhan Maluto failed to make it three Filipinos in the semis after they fell short against Mohammad Soufi of Syria, 11-1, and Mario He of Austria, 11-7, respectively, in the quarters. Bautista earlier pulled off an escape act, 11-10, over Jose Alberto Delgado of Spain while Maluto toppled Luca Menn of Germany, 11-8, in the Round-of-16.
De Luna will next compete against Poland's Daniel Maciol on Saturday, December 14.
The other semifinal match will feature Soufi taking on He.
He is also the tormentor of Marlon Manalo, 11-8, in the Round-of-32 and Sean Mark Malayan, 11-6, in the Round-of-16.
"I'm happy with my performance," said De Luna.
The World Pool Association sanctioned a tournament which offers $450,000 total pot prize with the winner getting the lion share of $100,000 to the champion.-Marlon Bernardino-
