News from the WBC 62nd Annual Convention in Hamburg

Leon Sala of the Carlos Takam Foundation presented a commemorative WBC belt designed to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the iconic Rumble in the Jungle—the legendary Ali vs. Foreman bout in Zaire, Africa, in 1974. This special belt will be awarded to the winner of the highly anticipated Usyk-Fury II match.

Marina and Jon Sheppard, the masterminds behind BoxRec.com, delivered a comprehensive presentation on the platform's features and functionalities.

Han Hoang Mai, CEO of the rapidly growing FIGHTFAX.COM, outlined the platform's innovative features and expressed aspirations for it to become the primary global reference for boxing event results across all continents.

Dean Lohuis shared insights into his unique record-keeping system, humorously noting that he relies on his memory and physical record cards.

Cutmen Vic Starita and Victor Gracia, from the renowned Top Rank gym in Las Vegas, announced a specialized training program for aspiring cutmen. In collaboration with the WBC, they plan to host seminars aimed at equipping the next generation of cutmen with essential skills.

Andrew Kluger introduced BoxMed, a free initiative prioritizing boxers' health and weight management. The program offers a streamlined and user-friendly process for boxers, coaches, and others to sign up and benefit from its resources.

Cai Yongjun gave an impressive presentation on Xempower, an AI-powered boxing event management and operations system. Utilizing AI motion capture technology and pressure sensors embedded in boxing gloves, Xempower aims to revolutionize digital judging in the sport.

Mike Mazzulli, representing Mohegan Sun and serving as president of the WBC's Association of Boxing Commissions, emphasized the critical need for collaboration among boxing’s governing bodies.

Boris Van Der Vorst, the newly elected president of World Boxing, reaffirmed his commitment to preserving amateur boxing’s place in the Olympics. With 59 affiliated countries currently, World Boxing is striving to expand its membership to a minimum of 75 nations.

The WBC Amateur Committee presented updates on its tournaments held worldwide. Members Raja Amasheh and Marcos Ariente proposed and agreed to rename the committee to the WBC Amateur and Olympic Boxing Committee to better reflect its objectives.

Jill Diamond provided a heartfelt report on a recent visit by WBC Cares to a local school, where campers including Terence Crawford, Amir Khan, Blair Cobbs, Scott Welch, and Raja Amasheh joined in activities and engaged with students using protective boxing gear.
