From December 8 to 14, Hamburg will host the 62nd Annual WBC Convention, marking the first time this prestigious event is being held in Germany. Organized with the support of Ismail Özen-Otto of Universum Box-Promotion, the convention celebrates the World Boxing Council's green and gold legacy.
Boxing champions such as Badou Jack, Shawn Porter, Humberto "Chiquita" González, Carlos Zárate, Mariana Juárez, Miguel Cotto, Michael Moorer, Sebastian and Gabriela Fundora, Adonis Stevenson, Junto Nakatani, and Melvin Jerusalem, among others, are attending this grand event at the luxurious five-star Grand Elysee Hotel on the Outer Alster.
A highlight of the convention will be a thrilling boxing night on Wednesday, December 11, featuring important WBC title fights.
The event expects participation from approximately 1,500 international guests, including sports stars, politicians, and business leaders. Notably, Turki Al-Sheikh, Saudi Arabia's government minister responsible for sports promotion and the Riyadh Season, is also anticipated to attend.
The German Professional Boxers Association (BDB), chaired by Thomas Pütz and celebrating its 75th anniversary, is a key supporter of the convention.
The WBC Annual Convention unites delegates from 176 member countries, along with boxers, promoters, trainers, and media representatives from around the globe. Attendees engage in discussions on pressing issues, plan charity initiatives with WBC Cares, and approve future fights.
The convention also includes the review of rules, addressing complaints, and evaluating topics from the past year while planning for the year ahead. All matters are discussed in open, transparent, and democratic sessions, ensuring the event's significance as a cornerstone of global boxing.
