
Kevin Arquero battles back to capture the SIKAT Armageddon chess

Kevin Arquero regained his form coming from the loser brackets and edged Sherwin Tiu 2-1 in the grand finals of the 1st Single Knockout Armageddon Tournament (SiKAT) held on November 30, 2024 at the SMX Mall of Asia Complex in Pasay City.
The event unfolded during the 49th IIEE Annual National Conventions held in the same venue. Arquero beat Keiffer Pelias and Engr. Michael Suacillo before being relegated in the loser’s bracket with a loss versus Tiu. He bested National Master Romeo Alcodia to move to the Finals.
Tiu had to beat all opponents which included Evaristo Tizon Jr., Candidate Master Genghis Imperial and Arquero.
Meanwhile, nineteen players, mostly members of the Institute of Integrated Electrical Engineers (IIEE), participated in the simultaneous games with International Master Roderick Nava with a time odds of 7 minutes for each player who had 20mins.
The IIEE players who won mostly on time included IIEE Metro Central Randy Turreda and Evaristo Tizon Jr., IIEE Metro South Eric Frigillana and Christopher Balbuena, IIEE Metro East John Eric Menor, IIEE Metro East Michael Suacillo, IIEE Eastern Central Visayas’ Danilo Centino and IIEE Southern Laguna Rafael De Guzman. Others who posted victories are IIEE Imports, AIM Jason Rojo , Rodel Jose Juadinez and Mark Jerome Prudencio.
In the other mini-tournaments supervised by International Arbiter Ricky Navalta, the Champions include Neil Siongco, IIEE Western Visayas’ Ronald Donasco, IIEE Eastern Central Visayas’ AFM Anthony Cataros, IIEE Metro South Raul Ochavez and NM Alcodia.
The 3-day IIEE Golden Sports event was graced by special guests which include PBA Legend Ramon Fernandez, GM Joey Antonio and actor Jao Mapa. Other sports highlights includes Drone Soccer by the Philippine Drone Soccer Association led by Crissa May Busano and PDSA President Nastaran Reza Nazar Zadeh.-Marlon Bernardino-
