Shane Van Boening secured back-to-back victories on the opening day, joining Ko Pin Yi and Mickey Krause in Winners’ Qualification at the 2024 Mansion Sports Hanoi Open, held from October 8-13 at the vibrant Hanoi Indoor Games Gymnasium in Vietnam.

Returning for its second edition, the highly anticipated Hanoi Open Pool Championship is presented in partnership with leading sports investment firm Mansion Sports & Entertainment Group and renowned broadcaster Vietcontent.

The five-time US Open champion, Shane Van Boening, began his hunt for a maiden Hanoi Open title in commanding style. "The South Dakota Kid" dominated his first match with a 9-3 win over Nguyen Van Viet. Van Boening continued his momentum, securing a 9-4 victory over Dang Thanh Kien to confirm his place in Winners’ Qualification.

Ko Pin Yi followed the path set by his brothers on the opening day, registering back-to-back victories against Nguyen Su Linh and Nguyen Quang Hiep, earning his spot in the next stage. Fellow Reyes Cup Team Asia star, Duong Quoc Hoang, also advanced to Winners' Qualification after a bye in his first match, followed by a 9-6 win over Nguyen Cong Hoang.

European Open champion Mickey Krause kicked off his campaign in search of a second Matchroom Major title this year. Krause comfortably dispatched Luu Van Viet 9-3 in his opening match before edging out Filipino Raymund Farraon in a thrilling hill-hill battle to secure his place in Winners’ Qualification.

Mosconi Cup captain Skyler Woodward mirrored Van Boening's strong start, delivering a resounding 9-2 win over Nguyen Duc Anh in his opener. In a closely contested second match, Woodward fought hard to claim a 9-7 victory against Chinese Taipei's Liu Chien Hung.

Last year’s Hanoi Junior Open champion, AJ Manas, made his mark on the main event this year. Manas displayed impressive form as he powered past Venus Lim and John Carlo to secure his spot in the next round.

Eklent Kaçi rebounded from his opening-day loss, returning to face Nguyen The Hien. Despite an early setback, Kaçi turned the match around, securing an 8-4 win to stay in the running.

Polish star Wiktor Zielinski had a tough start, losing 9-7 in his debut against Hanoi Open qualifier Dao Phuc An. However, Zielinski made a strong recovery in Losers' Qualification, riding a five-rack streak to overcome Dang Thanh Kien 8-6 and stay in contention. Also surviving Losers' Qualification was Singaporean ace Aloysius Yapp. Like Kaçi, Yapp fell short on day one but bounced back with a dominant 8-2 victory over Luong Van Nam to keep his Hanoi Open campaign alive.
