MAYOR RON JENSEN PRESENTED ORTIZ JR. SPECIAL PROCLAMATION CELEBRATING HIS ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND CONTRIBUTIONS TO GRAND PRAIRIE

GRAND PRAIRIE, TEXAS (Sept. 14, 2024) – The newly crowned WBC Interim Super Welterweight World Champion and knockout monster, Vergil Ortiz Jr. (22-0, 21 KOs) was celebrated today by his hometown, City of Grand Prairie, Texas, during their Grand Fiestas Patrias event. Ortiz Jr. formed part of a memorable parade and was joined by dozens of local youth boxers who are inspired by the world champion. After the parade, the Mayor of Grand Prairie, Ron Jensen, and several members of the city council presented a special proclamation to the WBC Interim Champion for his accomplishments inside the ring and his contributions to his hometown.

“This moment is indescribable. I honestly don’t know what to say,” said Vergil Ortiz Jr. “I am always going to back the city, and back the kids. I will do everything in my power to make sure that Grand Prairie continues to be the best city in the world. I want to make Grand Prairie proud every day.”

“You have made us proud, Vergil,” said Grand Prairie Mayor Ron Jensen. “We don’t know what it takes to accomplish what Vergil has done, and yet he continues to break records and make us proud.”

The cultural event was organized by the Hispanic Heritage Ambassadors DFW, which was co-chaired by the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Grand Prairie and co-sponsored by the City of Grand Prairie. In partnership with the North Texas Ford Dealers, Vergil Ortiz Jr. was seen in the Ford Mustang followed by Grand Prairie’s own aspiring boxing youth in a lineup of America’s best-selling truck for 47 years and the best-selling truck in Texas, Ford F-Series.
