Makati wins rapid chess team tourney

Makati ruled the Lifecore Enterprises Open rapid chess tatluhan (trio) team tournament on Sunday, September 8, 2024 at the Gaisano Mall Calapan City, Virgen Gil Ruaya led the Makati Pirates chess team to the championship as the BNU squad also featured Vincent Mariano and Joshua Francisco.

Makati nabbed four wins and got one draw to top the 20 team tournament.

Makati defeated Chess Nut, 3-0, in the first round, Triple Ace, 2-1, in the second round, Jolly Smile Dental Clinic, 2-1, in the third round, and Mindoro Chess Executioner, 2.5-0.5, in the fifth and final round. They drew with Carpet Bombers Drunken Master, 1.5-1.5, in the fourth round.

With the victory, Makati received the top prize of P35,000 plus 3 gold medals for their efforts in this 15 minutes plus 5 seconds increment.

Triple Ace placed second, Mindoro Chess Executioner ended up in third.

Rounding up the top 10 were fourth Jolly Smile Dental Clinic, fifth BNU Anatoly, sixth Batangas City Chess Club, seventh Carpet Bombers, eight GMO, ninth Bulalacao chess and tenth, the Destroyer.-Marlon Bernardino-
