FM Dela Cruz favored to defend title

Mandaluyong--- All eyes will be on FIDE Master (FM) Noel Dela Cruz as he tries to defend his title in the IIEE-PSE Bayanihan-Greenfield Armageddon Blitz Chess Challenge coincide the Chess Day celebration on Friday, August 9 at the Ground Floor, Greenfield District, Pavilion Mall, Mandaluyong City.

The Barangay Olympia, Makati City resident is favored to top the mini tournament as part of his preparation in the Grandmaster Rosendo Carreon Balinas Jr. Open Rapid Chess Tournament on September 29 at the same venue.

"I hope to do well in this event (IIEE-PSE Bayanihan-Greenfield Armageddon Blitz Chess Challenge," said Dela Cruz, a former top player of San Sebastian College – Recoletos Manila under the guidance of coach NM Homer Cunanan.

Dela Cruz defeated Lee Roi Palma in the finals to win the IIEE knockout Armageddon system held at the IIEE Building in Cubao, Quezon City last July 29, 2024.

Other top contenders are NM Romeo Alcodia, CM Genghis Imperial, Joel Delfin, Andrew Elpedes, Richard Manzano, and Patrick Bonifacio.

Meanwhile, a Ceremonial Signing of Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the Institute of Integrated Electrical Engineers of the Philippines (IIEE) and the Philippines Sports Expo is also schedule on Friday at 1 pm coincide the celebration of Chess Day with Mini Chess Tournament, Chess Clinic, Chess Simultaneous Exhibition and launching of the newly form Greenfield District Chess Club is also line up that day in close cooperation with Bayanihan Chess Club.

Headed by IIEE National Past President Engr. Allan Anthony Alvarez and Philippines Sports Expo President /CEO Michael Herrera will be witnessed by Greenfield District Retail Marketing Officer Dawn Suzette Aguila , Marketing Coordinator Joana Sison, Tournament Organizer Mr. Arman Salvador of Bords Haircut Hair Replacement System, Rotary Club Bacoor Sunrise President Mary France Lodronio, Philippine Technological Council Country Registrar Romulo Agatep, sports journalist Noli Sangil Cruz, National Arbiter Ranier Pascual, sportsman Jessie Villasin, Dr. Ariel Potot, Mr. Teddy Cu and Bayanihan Chess Club founding president NM Almario Marlon Bernardino Jr.

The 1st Arman Chess Cup Kiddies FIDE Rated Rapid Chess Tournament (12 yrs old & Below) at the Ground Floor, Greenfield District, Pavilion Mall, Mandaluyong City is also set on Sunday, August 11, 2024.-Marlon Bernardino-
