Pound-for-pound stars closing in on blockbuster battle in Phoenix next Saturday

ESTRADA: “He’s ten years younger but he didn’t look very good at Super-Flyweight before.”

BAM: “To share the ring with him is an honor. It’s my toughest fight to date.”

The blockbuster battle between Juan Francisco Estrada and Jesse Rodriguez is closing in, and Matchroom’s cameras went behind the scenes in both training camps in ‘Make The Days Count’ before they meet at Footprint Center in Phoenix for Estrada’s WBC World and Ring Magazine Super-Flyweight titles on Saturday June 29, live Worldwide on DAZN.

Estrada and Rodriguez clash in one of the most hotly anticipated fights of the year so far, with ‘Gallo’ looking to halt ‘Bam’s’ rapid rise, and prevent his fellow two-weight ruler from adding his scalp to his impressive and growing CV.

Estrada reveals his scouting report on Rodriguez having been ringside in Arizona for Bam’s unification stoppage win over Sunny Edwards in December, and they both reference the gap in age and experience between them.

“I was there [at his fight with Sunny Edwards], he looked great,” said Estrada. “But Edwards is a Flyweight, it’s a different story up at Super-Flyweight.

“People are talking about retirement; I have a lot left. He’s ten years younger but he didn’t look very good at Super-Flyweight before. I want to keep making history.”

“I’ve been familiar with Estrada since I was 12 years old, I’ve been keeping an eye out,” said Rodriguez. “To share the ring with him is an honor.

“It’s my toughest fight to date, he’s been in the game a long time, it’s going to be an action-packed night.”

Rodriguez’s clash with Estrada is part of a stacked night of action in Phoenix, where former World champions Sunny Edwards and Adrian Curiel collide, unbeaten duo Arturo Cardenas and Danny Barrios meet for the WBC Continental Americas Super-Bantamweight title and Yamileth Mercado defends her WBC World Super-Bantamweight title against Ramla Ali.

Matchroom’s latest signing Leonardo Rubalcava will open the show against William Flenoy over six rounds at Super-Lightweight, Phoenix’s Fabian Rojo faces New Mexico’s Daniel Gonzalez over six rounds at Welterweight and unbeaten Californian Bantamweight Gabriel Muratalla meets Mexican Carlos Fontes over eight rounds.
