Recarte Tiauson wins anew

MANILA---Recarte Tiauson of Barangay Mabca Municipality of Sagñay, Camarines Sur again stamped his class in the 5th Mayor Fermin Mabulo Open Invitational Chess Tournament held in San Fernando, Camarines Sur last June 8 to 9, 2024.

The 36-year-old Tiauson, who topped the Jesse Robredo Memorial Chess Tournament III and the 2nd Greyhound Open Chess Tournament for a cause, both held in Naga City, bagged the top spot after registering the highest output of 6.5 points.

Tiauson, playing under the guidance of Mayor John Vincent B. Fuentebella received the top purse of P10,000 for his efforts.

“I am happy with my performance,” said Tiauson.

Leo Mirana of Goa and National Master Carlo Lorena of Daraga occupied the second to third spots with 6.0 points each.
Romy Jun Malate of Naga, Patrick Ismael Credo of Sipocot and National Master Glennen Artuz of Naga wound up fourth, fifth and sixth with identical 5.5 points.

It shall be recalled that Tiauson finished third in the 8th HDBank Cup International Open Chess Tournament Challenger category title at the Army Hotel in Hanoi, Vietnam in 2018.-Marlon Bernardino-
