JCI Senate Lipa to hold chess tourney

Lipa City, Batangas---The JCI Senate Lipa holds the Lipa Open Rapid Chess Tournament unfurling this Monday, June 17, 2024 at the Lipa Convention Center (formerly LACSA), Lipa City Batangas here.

Organized by the JCI Senate Lipa in close cooperation with Mayor Eric Africa, former Vice-Mayor Kuya Boy Manguerra and Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers - PSME past president Engr. Roger Reyes, a total cash purse worth P222,000 plus trophies, medals and certificates will be given away to winners.

The event is held in celebration of Lipa City Foundation Day, which is backed by LGU of Lipa, is also aimed at producing future talents.

“That’s the goal, to produce future champions and Grandmasters,” said UAE based Danny Reyes.

The 1-day rapid event features team tournaments and 18 years old and below (youth division).

Leading the cast are teams of GM Darwin Laylo, IM Domingo Ramos, IM Joel Banawa, IM Michael Concio Jr., IM Angelo Abundo Young, IM Jose Efren Bagamasbad, FM Mark Jay Bacojo, WFM Allaney Jia Doroy, WFM Shania Mae Mendoza, NM Jasper Faeldonia and NM Gladimir Chester Romero.

In the 18 years old and below (youth division), 10 years old Henrick Marello Bolaños, a Grade 5 pupil of Kalalake Elementary School- Olongapo City but native of San Jose Batangas and 13 years old King Alexander Oseña, a Grade 7 pupil of San Antonio National High School are among the entries that includes Raydhien Miguel Bautista and Kiara Burgos.-Marlon Bernardino-
