We have received the very sad news of the death of Mexican doctor José Luis Ibarra Mercado, who was especially passionate about boxing and dedicated to protecting boxers both inside and outside the ring.

Doctor Ibarra was a member and close friend of the WBC. He always worked with respect, responsibility, and dedication, serving as a ring doctor and supervisor on many boxing nights. Dr. Ibarra received several recognitions from the World Boxing Council for his great and selfless work.

José Luis will always be remembered as an honest, decent, and wonderful person committed to his work, but even more so, as a great human being who made a difference.

His kindness, sweet smile, and gift of friendship made him loved, admired, and respected. This is a loss of enormous magnitude.

The WBC and its President, Mauricio Sulaimán, ask God to receive his new angel in paradise. We send our deepest condolences and wishes for peace to his wife Lucy, his family, and his friends.

We personally chatted frequently and he was known for his endless repertoire of knowledge.

Rest in peace good Doctor Ibarra. We will miss you very much, but we will meet again. This is not the end.
