Unbeaten Puerto Rico talents sign with Hearn and Universal Promotions

Stephanie Piñeiro and William Ortiz have both signed co-promotional deals with Matchroom and Universal Promotions.

Piñeiro (6-0 2 KOs) in undefeated in the paid ranks and closing in on her first title action. ‘The Medicine’ still harbors ambitions of competing in the 2024 Olympics in Paris this summer, echoing back to her amateur success where she won Central American gold in 2023 and bronze in 2018. The 33 year old also plays professional basketball in Puerto Rico, and has represented the Morovis Mountaineers in the BSNF league since 2009.

Ortiz (5-0 4 KOs) is one of the hottest young stars in Puerto Rico, and the 20 year old has banked four wins inside the distance from his five victories to date since turning pro in October 2022. “Willito” joined the paid ranks as a four-time Puerto Rican national champion and 2021 Pan Am games bronze medalist.

“As a woman in boxing, this is a great opportunity and I’m very excited about it. This catapults my professional career", said Piñeiro. “From the first day, I signed with Universal Promotions, they promised me that many doors would open and with this, great opportunities would come.

“Now I am not only with the best promoter in Puerto Rico, Javier Bustillo, but I also going to work with the best promoter in the world. We are going to show the world that women’s boxing in Puerto Rico is a serious sports matter".

“I am thankful and motivated for this opportunity to sign with the biggest promoter in the world!” said Ortiz. “This has always been one of my goals, to be able to showcase my level of talent locally and worldwide. I would also like to thank my family and my team for supporting and believing in me.”

“It’s an honor to fulfill this alliance with our friends at Matchroom Boxing,” said Javier Bustillo, President of Universal Promotions. “Stephanie Piñeiro and William Ortiz are an important part of an elite group of prospects who will go out and conquer not only the world but the world of boxing. This alliance with Matchroom Boxing is only the beginning of great things to come for the boxing sport in Puerto Rico.”
