Canelo Alvarez Drops, Decisions Jaime Munguia to Retain Undisputed Super Middleweight Title

After a very competitive 12 rounds, Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (61-2-2, 39KOs) defeated former undefeated junior middleweight champion Jaimie Munguia (43-1, 34KOs) over 12 rounds. Munguia started the fight strong and seemed to have won the first 3 rounds, but appeared to not be able to hurt Canelo at any point of the fight. Although Canelo scored a knockdown of Mungia in the 3th round, he was unable to stop Munguia who didn't appear in danger of being knocked out at any point of the fight. A very competitive fight between both fighters ensued for an exciting 12 rounds. At the end of 12 rounds all three Judges scored it unanimously for Canelo.

Score were 117-110,116-111, 115-112 for Canelo. Canelo when asked about fighting former champion and his mandatory defense against David Benavidez, Canelo said if the price is right he would fight Benavidez tonight. Let's see if Canelo's purse demands will be met so the fans can have Canelo vs Benavidez next.

Rounds12 - Munguia perhaps not wanting t leave it to the Judges has come out aggressive. Canelo does a good job to evade his punches. Canelo does not retreat and manages to land good punches. 10-9 Canelo

Round 11- More of the same action from round 10 in round 11. 10-9 Munguia.

Round 10- Munguia not wanting to leave it in the hands of the Judges come out with the same aggression he did in the first half of the fight fighting Canelo "toe to toe". 10-9 Munguia

Round 9- Good round where both fighters have there moments landing punches. Munguia outworks Canelo. 10-9 Munguia

Round 8- Good use of the jab by Canelo. Munguia throws good combinations. Good action by both fighters. Canelo 10-9

Round 7 - Good action in round. Munguia appears to be the fresher fighter. 10-9 Munguia

Round 6 - Good round where both fighters had there moments. 10-9 for Munguia

Round 5- Canelo continues working trying to build on the momentum of the knockdown. Close round. Canelo 10-9

Round 4 - Canelo finds the shot with he has be looking for and it's an uppercut and knocks down Munguia. Munguia gets up and goes right back to work in what appears to have been a flash knockdown. 10-8 Canelo

Round 3 - Munguia works behind a good jab to land his punches. Canelo seems to be looking for 1 shot. Munguia continues to work behind the jab. Munguia lands multiple hooks. Corners Canelo in a corner and lets his hands go for a barrage of punches and the crowd goes wild. 10-9 Munguia

Round 2- Canelo shows more offense, but Munguia is the aggressor and outlands Canelo. 10-9 Munguia.

Round 1 - Good jab by Munguia who comes out very aggressive. with good movement. Canelo swings wildly and is unable to connect or close the gap. 10-9 Munguia.
