T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas - In the second TV fight on the Canelo-Munguia undercard for the WBC interim featherweight bout, Brandon Figueroa of Texas (25-1-1, 19KOs) stopped former champion Jessie Magdaleno of Las Vegas (29-3, 18KOs) in a "toe to toe action" bout to successfully defend his title. An accidental clash of heads caused a cut to Magdaleno's lift eyelid in the first round. The cut did not appear to slow Magdaleno down nor an accidental low blow later in the fight. However, Figueroa's nonstop pressure was overwhelming and he landed a body shot to Magdaleno's left side which dropped him to the canvas. Magdaleno was unable to beat the Referee's 10 count so Figueroa was awarded the knockout victory. The time of stoppage was 259 of the 9th round.
