
Ryan Garcia Misses Weight for Haney Fight

Ryan Garcia weighed in at a hefty 143.2 lbs on Friday (Saturday in Manila) for his scheduled WBC junior welterweight title fight against Devin Haney in Brooklyn, New York. This is a significant 3.2 lbs over the weight limit of 140 lbs. Meanwhile, Haney hit the scales precisely at the championship limit.
In a pre-fight handshake agreement during Thursday's press conference, Garcia and Haney stipulated a $500,000 penalty for each pound exceeding the weight limit. According to a statement from Garcia's promoter, Golden Boy Promotions, the troubled social media star Ryan Garcia will uphold the agreement, allowing Haney to receive a hefty $1.5 million even before the fight starts. However, due to missing weight, Garcia will no longer be eligible to win the WBC title should he score an upset over Haney.
