Celebrity Chess For A Cause Event: Torre to hold chess simul in Pangasinan

MANILA---ASIA’S first chess grandmaster and Hall of Famer Eugene Torre will play simultaneous chess exhibition matches dubbed as Celebrity Chess For A Cause Event at Black Crust Pizza in Santa Barbara, Pangasinan on December 10.

Institute of Integrated Electrical Engineers of the Philippines, Inc. (IIEE) National Past President Engr. Allan Anthony P. Alvarez said Torre, the “Living Legend” of Philippine chess will hold a simultaneous exhibition with select IIEE players and chess enthusiasts of Pangasinan and nearby provinces.

The proceeds will go to electrification (solar street lights) of a chosen community within Pangasinan and chess materials for the Bayanihan Chess Club intended for the chess development of the youth in the Philippines. Added attraction is the live performances of DJ Alvaro and chess clinic of Asian Senior back to back champion IM Jose Efren Bagamasbad and NM Almario Marlon Quiroz Bernardino Jr.

“We’re excited. The IIEE players and residents of Pangasinan and nearby provinces are eager to meet and even play Asia’s First GM Eugene Torre in simultaneous chess exhibition matches,” said Engr. Alvarez.

“Asia’s First GM Eugene Torre was the perfect choice to do the rare simultaneous chess exhibitions. Most of the young kids today look up to him as their idol,” added Engr. Alvarez.

TV Actor and Artist Jao Mapa head the list of cast that includes Santa Barbara Mayor Carlito S. Zaplan, Pozorrubio Vice Mayor Ernesto Snooky B. Salcedo III, IIEE CLR Former Governor Woody Erama from Sta. Barbara, Atty. Reddy Ceralde Balarbar from San Fabian, Atty. Rodolfo Enrique "Rudy" Rivera from Bolinao, Dr. Kevin Eustaquio from Calasiao, Dagupan Electric Corp COO Engr. August Sarmiento, Network operation Manager – OIC of Dagupan Electric Corp. Engr. Joseph Carino, 2023 MVP and member of Champion IIEE Visayas for the IIEE National Chess Olympiad Season 4 Engr. Ronald Donasco, PHINMA University of Pangasinan bet Kenneth Sebastian Q. Estacio and Engr. Reynold Sales Roces, 2nd Runner up of 1st JLD Chess Tournament last August 2023 at Ilagan City Isabela with the theme “Push pawn not drugs”.-Marlon Bernardino-
