Boris van der Vorst, a prominent opponent of International Boxing Association (IBA) president Umar Kremlev, has been elected inaugural president of World Boxing following a full vote of 26 of the 27 national federations and the first three sponsors were named of the organization last weekend in Frankfurt, Germany.

Van der Vorst received 63.4% of votes over the American candidate Elise Seignolle (36.6%) for a mandate for a period of two years and the expectation is that some 50 national federations will gradually become part of the organization.

Three vice-presidents were also selected: Ryan O'Shea (CAN), Matt Holt (GBR) and Dinah Glykidis (AUS) plus four additional members of the Executive Board.

Sponsorship income projections have objectives in three categories such as equipment, clothing and technological support. World Boxing has named Australia-based Sting to a four-year deal for competitive tag teams. The company is also a supplier to the International Boxing Association while Nike will be its clothing sponsor and the Chinese Xempower (Nanjing Shanpao Sports Technology Co., Ltd.) will be its technology sponsor.

World Boxing launched in April 2023 and aims to ensure boxing remains at the heart of the Olympic movement. It will seek recognition from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and plans to work constructively and collaboratively to develop a path that preserves boxing's current place in the Olympic competition program at Los Angeles 2028 and beyond.
