
WBC World Peace Convention begins in Uzbekistan

The 61st Annual Convention of the WBC began this Monday morning at the Hilton Hotel in the spectacular city of Tashkent “The Stone City” in Uzbekistan with the presence of more than 700 representatives from 170 countries.
Attending are world champions Evander Holeyfield, Kostya Tszyu, Adonis Stevenson, Roberto Duran, Carlos Zarate, Oleksander Usyk, Julio César Chávez, Carlos Molina, Michale Magnesi, Billy Dib, Koki Kameda, Daniel Zaragoza, Amir Khan and Humberto “Chiquita” González, Lucas Rozanski among others.
A tribute was made to the “Bravest Woman in the World”, Argentine Dayana Sánchez, who has serious burns after a fire in her house and who received the distinction from another hero such as Bridger Walker, who gave the distinction to the boxer. South America with the financial support of the José Sulaimán Fund.
Former world champion Billy Dib has been honored as the “Champion of Hope” after facing stomach cancer with a prognosis of just six months to live.
The Mexican superstar of world sports, Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez received the award for Best Boxer of 2023 remotely from legendary Julio Cesar Chavez.
It is the first time that a mega professional boxing event is held not only in Uzbekistan but throughout Central Asia. To date, WBC conventions have been organized in the United States, Russia, Japan, Argentina, Mexico, Azerbaijan, Ukraine and Thailand among others. Among the CIS countries, the event was held in the cities of Baku and Moscow.
The agenda of the 61st WBC Convention includes debates on education, doping, arbitration, international cooperation, boxing rules, classifications, championship belts, WBC Cares visit to children in the country and contribution initiatives and public sports agreements.
On the last day of the event, November 17, a great evening of professional boxing will take place at the Humo Arena sports complex that includes 10 professional boxing, Muay Thai and amateur boxing matches where there will be a fight for the world super flyweight title. WBC between the Mexican former world champions, Carlos Cuadras and Pedro Guevara.
