THE newly elected officers of the Philippine Boxing Federation (PBF) were inducted by Games and Amusement Board (GAB) Chairman Atty. Richard S. Clarin last March 18 at the GAB office in Makati City.

They were headed by its president Dante Almario, who is also the acting Board Chairman.

Also inducted were Gerry Balmes, vice president for Luzon; Edito “Ala” Villamor, vice president for Visayas and Jim Claude “JC” Manangquil, vice president for Mindanao.

The other PBF officers were Lyn Rambac, secretary; Reynaldo Rodiz, treasurer; and Patrick Pepito Pante, assistant treasurer.
The members of the board are Gabriel “Bebot” Elorde, Leonil Lazarito, Jimmy Villarez Jr., Dan Nazareno Jr., Jonathan Penalosa and Glenford Rafa.

The ratings committee is composed of Art Monis and Edmond Dellosa with Lope Sarreal, Jr. as adviser.

PBF expressed their appreciation to Clarin for hearing their concerns and providing immediate solutions. PBF pledged its full support to the GAB’s undertaking and expressed his enthusiasm to work with them for the development of the boxing industry.

Clarin laid out the plans and programs of GAB and welcomed the stakeholders’ suggestions on the renewal of license, rest period, ratings / rankings, prevention of mismatches, qualifications to fight abroad, protection for boxers who fight abroad, boxers’ welfare fund and enrollment of boxers to Social Security and providing seminars on financial literacy, livelihood and insurance.

Jackie Lou Cacho-Ornido, acting chief of the boxing and other contact sports division and Dr. Radentor Viernes, head of medical section joined Clarin in the brief discussion to help resolve the issues concerning Philippine professional boxing.

Clarin stressed the point that GAB is evolving its regulation for the enrichment of the Philippine professional sports.
