
San Diego faces tough competition in Kamatyas rapid chess

MANILA---Woman International Master Marie Antoinette San Diego, Grandmaster Rogelio Antonio Jr. and International Master Daniel Quizon expect rough sailing in the 6th Edition of Kamatyas Rapid Invitational Chess Tournament 2022 dubbed as Chess Avengers on Saturday at the 3rd floor, Building B, SM City Sucat in Paranaque City.
The Dasmariñas City, Cavite native San Diego is fresh from winning the Philippine National Women Chess Championship - Grand Finals last December 7.
The Quezon City based Antonio secured the ninth place honors in the 30th FIDE World Senior Individual Chess Championship 2022 (50+ and 65+ Open-men and women) held at the Hotel Cenacolo in Assisi, Umbria, Italy last Nov. 26.
Another Dasmariñas City, Cavite bet Quizon, on the other hand, won thrice the Kamatyas Rapid Invitational.
Backed up by Kamatyas Chess Club founding head David Almirol Jr. and organized by Kamatyas Chess Club president International Master Roderick Nava, the 15 minutes plus 5 seconds increment time control format will offer P30,000, P10,000, P7,000, P5,000 for the first, second third and fourth placers while the fifth to 10th placers will receive P2,000 each in this National Chess Federation of the Philippines sanctioned tournament, supervised by the Philippine Arbiters Chess Confederation (PACC) headed by International Arbiter Reden Cruz and National Arbiter Byron Gabrentina Villar.
