WNM Racasa beats Cacho, keeps PAPRISA chess meet lead

MANILA---Woman National Master Antonella Berthe Murillo Racasa kept the lead after a fifth-round conquest of Nimfa Geraldine Cacho in the High School Girls Division of the Pasig Alliance of Private School Administrators (PAPRISA) chess championship at the Niño Jesus House of Studies in Pasig City on Tuesday.

The 15-year-old Racasa, a student of Victory Christian International School, posted wins against Stephanie Engles and Eloisa Jade Alcantara in the third and fourth rounds took sole possession of the top spot in the 20 minutes plus 10 seconds increment time control format on Monday.

Earlier, Racasa scored victories over Charlene Alessandra Bacunawa in the first round and Aubrey Gayle De Leon in the second round.

Accompanied by his father/coach Roberto Manggaran Racasa who is also an International Memory Sports champion, fondly called Tonelle in the chess world will see action together with 13-time Philippine Open Champion Grandmaster Rogelio "Joey" Madrigal Antonio Jr. and National Master Almario Marlon Quiroz Bernardino Jr. at the 2023 Bob Wade Masters and Challengers slated from January 13 to 21 at the Howick Community Church Complex in Auckland New Zealand.-Marlon Bernardino-
