Barclays Center, Brooklyn, New York -- Deontay Wilder (43-2-1, 42KOs) scored a first round knockout of Robert Helenius (31-4, 20KOs) in the first round.
Wilder utilized the ring by using movement and boxing skills. Wilder was patient as Helenius followed him around the ring. Helenius looked heavier than his last fight against Knownacki. Perhaps the extra weight was to try and use the same strategy Tyson Fury did to use the weight to lean on Wilder and try to drain Wilder's strength as the match progressed. The punch that knocked out Helenius was a short punch that didn't seem that devastating, but it was obviously enough to stop Helenius in his tracks. Helenius appeared out cold at 2:57 of the 1st round.
After the fight when Wilder was interviewed he called out current Heavyweight Champion Oleksandr Usyk's name as well as former Heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz as his next possible opponents.
