
National Master (NM) Christian Gian Karlo Tade-Arca of Dasmarinas City wins back-to-back National Youth and Schools Chess Championships

MANILA---National Master (NM) Christian Gian Karlo Tade - Arca of Dasmarinas City has just won a historic back-to-back National Youth and Schools Chess Championships held at the Dapitan City Cultural Complex in Zamboanga del Norte.
The 13-year-old Arca, a Grade 8 student of Dasmariñas Integrated High School, playing under the guidance of Rep. Elpidio "Pidi" Barzaga Jr., National Coach Fide Master Roel Abelgas and Class Adviser Melinda Calumaya, won the blitz event (5 minutes plus 3 seconds increment) with a final score of 7.5 points in the Under-17 Open division on Thursday, September 22, 2022.
"I just wanted to play fast today and make some good moves," said Arca, who is fresh from winning the Standard competition, Under-13 Open category last Wednesday.
"So I was just playing chess. If chances come, good. If I lose, that’s fine,” he added.
Arca scored victories over Jeremiah Luis Cruz in the first round, National Master John Cyrus Borce in the second round, Keith Adriane Ilar in the third round, Ritchie James Abeleda in the fourth round, National Master Robick Vohn Villa in the fifth round, bye in the sixth round, National Master Jerish John Velarde in the seventh round, Art Noblijas in the eight round and halved the point with Janmyl Dilan Tisado in the ninth and final round.
It shall be recalled that Arca dominated the 81st Birthday of GM/Lawyer Rosendo Carreon Balinas Jr. 14 years old and below kiddies Rapid Chess Tournament held at the 2nd floor Open Kitchen Foodhall, Rockwell Business Center, Sheridan Street, Mandaluyong City last September 10, 2022.
Arca, who hails from Panabo City, Davao del Norte wound up fourth in the Angeles City FIDE-Rated Chess Festival (Junior) held at the Marquel Mall in Angeles City, Pampanga last September 11, 2022.-Marlon Bernardino-
