The Philippine boxing team harvested three gold medals from Eumir Marcial, Ian Clark Bautista and Rogen Ladon at the 31st Southeast Asian Games on Sunday at Bac Ninh Gymnasium. The Filipino boxers finished 3-of-4 in the finals with Irish Magno settling for the silver.

Ladon retained the men’s flyweight title after defeating Vietnamese foe Thao Tran Van for the country's first boxing gold. Ladon's aggressive style from the start enabled him to garner a 3-2 split decision victory.

Ladon connected his punches from the opening round and landed his combinations that shook Thao and penetrated on his defense.

Ladon was a 2016 Rio Olympian and became the first gold medalist of the four Filipino boxers fighting for the gold.

Ian Clark Bautista followed the golden haul as he dominated Naing Latt of Myanmar with a 5-0 unanimous decision win in the men’s bantamweight category.

Bautista finally won the gold medal after only grabbing the bantamweight bronze in the 2019 SEA Manila Games.

Eumir Marcial then easily won the third gold medal in just one round to stop Delio Anzaqeci Mouzinho of Timor Leste in their men’s middleweight final.

Marcial was a bronze medalist in last year's Tokyo Olympics.

Irish Magno failed in her golden quest after she lost again to a previous foe in the women’s flyweight final.

For the second straight SEA Games, Magno was defeated by Vietnam’s Thi Tam Nguyen as she settled for the silver medal.

Magno suffered a 3-2 split decision loss to the taller hometown favorite. Her loss failed to make a sweep of the four gold medals.

Nesthy Petecio suffered a shocking defeat to Thi Linh Tran of Vietnam in the semifinal of the women's lightweight category.

Petecio, the silver medalist of the Tokyo Olympics, was defeated by the hometown fighter, losing in points and settled for the bronze medal.

She won the gold medal in the featherweight division in the 2019 Manila SEA Games. The 30-year-old lady fighter won three silver medals from 2011 to 2015, and made her worse finish in the regional biennial meet so far.

Marjon Pianar, the silver medalist of the welterweight class in the previous SEA Games, also succumbed to an early exit to Sarohatua Lumbantobing of Indonesia, 1-4.

World champion and five-time SEA Games gold medalist Josie Gabuco lost to Chuthamat Raksat of Thailand in the women’s light flyweight category. She just won a bronze medal.

Riza Pasuit, the 2019 lightweight silver medalist, was dominated by a taller opponent Vuong Thi Vy of Vietnam in the featherweight class. She got a bronze medal after losing a unanimous 0-5 decision.

In the men’s lightweight category, James Palicte lost to Indonesia’s Farrand Papendang after suffering acid reflux in the second round. He was leading the in the judges' scoreboards after round one. He was awarded the bronze medal.
