In a surprising and nostalgic announcement, the legendary Panamanian Boxing commentator, Political Analyst and businessman, Juan Carlos Tapia has announced that he is retiring from the screens just days after his 80th birthday on February 5.

Tapia has made his weekly television show "Lo Mejor Del Boxeo" immortal with 47 long years on the air, being recognized by Guinness as the boxing program with the longest airing time in the world.

Tapia revealed on his social networks about his last participation in the program for this Thursday, December 30, through RPC Channel 4.

46 years ago, on January 9, 1975, 'The Best of Boxing' appeared on the screens of Panama and since then it has been the only boxing program in that country and in the world that could be maintained despite the circumstances of social life, sports and politics of Panama and the rest of Latin America.

The Best of Boxing was broadcast in about 12 countries.

¨It will be the Panamanian historian Daniel Alonso together with my son Juan Carlos Tapia Rosas who will be in this relay of The Best of Boxing in its 48th season and I am sure they will do better,” said Don Juan Carlos Tapia.

For 46 years in ¨The Best of Boxing¨ the biggest global boxing events have been presented from Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard, Larry Holmes, Marvin Hagler, Evander Holeyfield, Roberto Duran, Kid Pambele, Aaraon Pryor, Bernard Hopkins, Thomas Hearns, Julio Cesar Chavez, Wilfredo Gomez, Salvador Sanchez, Eusebio Pedroza, Alexis Arguello, Roy Jones Jr, Mike Tyson, Ricardo Lopez, Erik Morales, Marco Antonio Barrera and Hector Camacho among many other legendary figures featured in the boxing broadcasts narrated by Juan Carlos Tapia that have reached the screens of all Panamanians for free over the last 47 years.

Juan Carlos Tapia has been nominated three times to the International Boxing Hall of Fame for his work over nearly five decades.

The farewell of Don Juan Carlos Tapia will be one of the most emblematic and nostalgic moments of Television in that country for his dedication, honesty and support to the most needy in the country.

Tapia made Boxing a favorite sport in Panama but his love for his country made him use the microphones in defense of those in need and in the search for transparency and justice in important situations for that Nation.

Tapia is a national heritage of the communication media but he is also an icon of the popular social classes that at the time thought that he could move from the microphone and the opinion to the Presidential House.

Thousands of Panamanians and boxing fans around the world will unite this December 30 to say "Thank you Juan Carlos Tapia for his contribution to boxing, to Panama and to the rest of the world".
