The World Boxing Council grants boxing star and WBC super middleweight world champion Saúl Canelo Álvarez special permission to face WBC cruiserweight champion Ilunga Makabu in 2022.

Also, the WBC has reported that the Board of Governors has approved an Interim championship to be contested by the highest challengers #1 David Benavidez and #2 David Lemieux.

For now, not much is known about the championship match between Benavidez and Lemieux but everything indicates that it will not be beyond the first half of 2022.

Millions of fans see Canelo Alvarez as the favorite to win a fifth world championship in different divisions against Ilunga Makabu and the expectation remains for May or September of the next year.
