Hot Filipino Featherweight prospect Michael Farenas won via third round TKO over Mexican Baudel Cardenas in the untelevised undercard of the Pacquiao-Marquez contest at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.

Farenas dropped Cardenas twice in the second round. In the third round, Farenas hit Cardenas with a vicious low blow that sent Cardenas grimacing in pain even as the referee had given him the full five minutes to recover. Cardenas wasn't able to continue the fight and Farenas was declared the winner via TKO at 2:46 in the third round.

The fight rather ended in a controversial fashion displeasing the crowd who booed Farenas as he was making his way out of the arena.

Farenas has now improved to 20-2-2 win-loss-draw with 18 KOs while Cardenas has dropped to 17-13-2 with 6 KOs.

Farenas' trainer, the revered Freddie Roach, in an interview after the fight by MaxBoxing's Doug Fischer and Steve Kim, said that the American public will see more of Michael Farenas as "Farenas has the potential of going all the way (to the world championship."

Farenas is managed by world champion Gerry Penalosa.
