One of the greatest writers and most famous boxing historians of all time, James Michael Anthony Amato, 66, passed away on February 22, 2021. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio, graduated from Warrensville High School, moved to Ashland, Ohio Area. He retired after 35 years of service with Packaging Corporation of America.
James was an avid sports fan and an established writer for various boxing organizations. In 2017, he wrote a book titled "Gloves Gone By" that was published. He was also inducted into many boxing organizations, including the Legends of Leather Hall of Fame (for journalistic excellence), the National Boxing Hall of Fame, the Ohio State Ex Boxers, and the Associates Hall of Fame.
He was a good man who was well liked by family and friends. With him he will take a piece of each of our hearts and he will be deeply missed.
In boxing we are grateful to have met him because he was truly a human boxing bible.
