
PH'S TOP WOODPUSHERS IN BALINAS-ANTONIO CHESS CUP

The country's top woodpushers get another chance to show their wares when the Balinas-Antonio Chess Cup gets underway Monday, March 1, 2021 at the lichess platform.
Grandmasters Mark Paragua, Rogelio “Joey” Antonio Jr., Rogelio "Banjo" Barcenilla Jr., Darwin Laylo and Roland Salvador head the list of cast in the one-day event organized and hosted by Bayanihan Chess Club founding chairman Engr. Antonio "Uncle Paps" Balinas and Bethesda, Maryland US based frontliner Dr. Joe Balinas in close cooperation with Mr. Fernan Donguines of Hybreed Apparel Collections and National Chess Federation of the Philippines Chairman/President Rep. Prospero "Butch" Pichay Jr.
“I hope to do well in the upcoming Balinas-Antonio Chess Cup," said GM Mark Paragua, the top player of Camarines Soaring Eagles of Engineer Jojo Buenaventura of Buena Viel Construction & Project Management.
"I will pour all that I know in the chess mind boggling sports,” added GM Paragua, who is fresh from winning the 3rd Marinduque Online Chess Tournament last February 19, 2021.
The total cash prize for the free registration Open event held as part of the 108th birthday celebration of the late Rosendo Padilla Balinas Sr. and 59th birthday celebration of 13-time Philippine Open champion Rogelio “Joey” Antonio Jr. is P50,000.
Rosendo Sr. is the father of Bayanihan Chess Club founding chairman Engr. Antonio "Uncle Paps" Balinas, Bethesda, Maryland US based frontliner Dr. Joe Balinas and the late GM and Atty. Rosendo Balinas Jr.
"The Bayanihan Chess Club invites all Filipino chess players all over the world to participate in the Balinas-Antonio Chess Cup that will start on Monday, March 1, 2021 using the Lichess chess platform," said Bethesda, Maryland US based frontliner Dr. Joe Balinas.
Bayanihan Chess Club founding president AGM Marlon Bernardino, asked all chess players to play fair adding that if a player violates any policy, his or her prize will go to Bayanihan Chess Club welfare fund.
Also seeing action are International Masters (IM) Jan Emmanuel Garcia, Paulo Bersamina, Ricardo de Guzman, Angelo Young, Chito Garma, Petronio Roca, Barlo Nadera, Joel Pimentel, Deniel Quizon, Emmanuel Senador and John Marvin Miciano.-Marlon Bernardino-
