Mexican WBC super featherweight world champion Miguel "Alacrán" Berchelt can’t be more excited to defend his title against his undefeated compatriot former 126 lbs world champ Oscar Valdez today in the stellar boxing show set to unfold at the MGM Grand Bubble in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Both star fighters looked in great shape during the weigh-in ceremony, both coming-in at identical 130 pounds, and the riveting, thrilling clash is now hours away. 🔥
The tough Berchelt wants to complete a successful 7th defense of his green ‘n gold belt, while brave-heart Valdez hopes to fulfill his lifelong dream of capturing the WBC world title. Who will get his dream come true?
Whoever wins, for sure it’s going to be an epic clash of titans for which boxing fans can’t be more delighted, especially after the few bumps on the road that threaten to derail the clash, including Berchelt getting Covid-19 last year. 🦠
But thank goodness both men are now ok, healthy and ready; and Berchelt vs Valdez happening!
The world champion Miguel Berchelt (38-1, 34 KOs) has held the WBC super featherweight title for 4 years after knocking out Francisco “El Bandido” Vargas in 11 round in fantastic fashion. This time he will be against another Mexican tiger, and Miguel loves it.

“I am very happy to be here,” shared Miguel Berchelt.
“I have been following Oscar Valdez since the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing and fighting him is a an opportunity that I wanted for myself. I respect him,” assured Miguel “El Alacrán” (Scorpion) Berchelt.
“I know the quality of the opponent that I will have in front of me. But I am here to get the win and retain my title.
“Styles make fights, and I think my style and Oscar's style will make for a great fight.
“So we'll see what happens on Saturday… I want to tell my fans that I don't know how to lose this fight. This is going to be a great battle.
“I know what cost me to get this title, and I am confident that I will successfully defend it again," Berchelt concluded.
Absolutely the war with be tough for both combatants.
Berchelt is in for a ride against a strong warrior-heart unbeaten challenger Oscar Valdez (28-0, 22 KO’s), a 2-time Mexican Olympian who vacated the WBO featherweight world title last year after 6 title defenses... a man with no fear.
Oscar Valdez’s title defenses include exciting hard-fought wins against fighters of awesome quality as Briton Scott Quigg, fantastic Filipino fighter Genesis Servania and experienced Colombian Miguel Marriaga.
“This battle against Miguel Berchelt is a tough fight. There's a reason why Miguel Berchelt has that belt," Valdez said.
“He's a great champion inside and outside of the ring.
“Nothing personal, but I want a WBC world title belt. It's a dream that I've cherished since I was 8-year-old.
“Because my 5 boxing idols have had it: Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson, Julio Cesar Chávez, Erik “El Terrible” Morales and Marco Antonio Barrera... They all had that world title belt and it's something I've wanted to hold since I was a kid.
“In Mexico, fans has kept on asking me that very question: 'When are you and Berchelt going to fight?'
“It will be an honor for me to give you fans a great fight with a warrior like Miguel Berchelt…
“This is my chance. I'm not going to go in and not give it my all. I will do whatever it takes.
“If I have to box, I will box. If I have to stand flat foot, trade, slug it out and rumble toe-to-toe, then I'm willing to do that too," Valdez said.
So the question in fans mind is: Who will emerge victorious: Berchelt, the solid 4-year 130 pound world champion, or Valdez, the unbeaten heavy-handed popular former 126 lbs king... will it end up by knock out, and if yes, who would stop who and in which round?
I like Oscar Valdez’s a lot. His fan-friendly thrilling fighting style hugely entertain and excite fans. Who the fighting spirit of Valdez?
That’s why I think that as the challenger, Oscar will surely come out swinging hard from the get go, wanting to land hard and damaging on Miguel.
But Miguel Berchelt will be able to counter effectively and eventually take control of the actions, overpowering Valdez in the later rounds for a TKO win.
If I am wrong, it would be Ok as Oscar Valdez is a fantastic fighter who gives it all in the ring, even fighting with a broken jaw against Quing, we can only imagine the pain, yet Oscar kept on fighting till emerging winner.
Against my old amigo Genesis Servania, Valdez had to get up from the canvas to score the thrilling victory. Valdez is one heck of a boxer and was one good 126 pound king.
But at 130, I feel that Berchelt is the dominating force. We soon will find out... I can’t wait for the sound of the first bell.
Berchelt vs Valdez is promoted by Bob Arum’s Top Rank live on ESPN and on Canal Space in Latin America.
May the Best Man Win..!!
