GM Mark Paragua wins Busaco Birthday Online Chess Tournament

Former child prodigy Grand Master (GM) Mark Paragua won the Baby Uno Chess Challenge dubbed as Freddie Busaco Birthday Online Chess Tournament on Monday (September 14, 2020) at lichess.org.

The New York, USA based Paragua finished undefeated with 10.5 points on account of 10 wins and 1 draw in 11 games to win the event that drew players worldwide.

It shall be recalled that Paragua topped the 81st Birthday celebration of engineer Antonio Carreon Balinas last August 22 and the 79th Birthday celebration of Grandmaster and Attorney Rosendo Carreon Balinas Jr. Chess Championship last September 6 and the Stay at Home Arena tilt sponsored by former NCFP director Boojie Lim last September 6.

Meantime, veteran campaigner Sherwin Tiu took the second spot with undefeated record of 9.5 points on 8 wins and 3 draws.
In third place was Dubai, United Arab Emirates based Rocky Pabalan who had 9 points.

The event was organized by Bayanihan Chess Club headed by Arena Grandmaster Marlon Bernardino and Genghis Imperial and hosted by businessman Freddie Busaco.

Grandmaster (GM) Darwin Laylo led the huge group of 8.5 pointers that included Mark Louie Velasco, National Master (NM) Edsel Montoya, National Master (NM) Elwin Retanal, Arena Grandmaster (AGM) Henry Lopez, Jess Calabia, Allerie Somosot Jr., Jerome Villanueva, Fide Master (FM) Jesse Noel Sales and Ritchie Evangelista.-Marlon Bernardino-
