
AGM Bernardino rules Santiago C.Tan Jr. chess tilt

Manila---Arena Grandmaster (AGM) and National Master (NM) Almario Marlon Quiroz Bernardino Jr. came out triumphant in the Santiago C. Tan Jr. online blitz chess tournament held Friday, July 31, 2020 at the lichess.org.
The 42 year old Bernardino, a sportswriter, chess teacher and founder of Bayanihan Chess Club scored 53 Arena points to snare the coveted chess crown.
Narciso Benigno Gayares IV, tied for second to National Master (NM) Julius Sinangote with 38 points apiece in the one day event.
With the highest tiebreak points, Gayares IV took the runner-up honor while Sinangote finished third.
Veteran campaigner Michael Metrio settled for fourth with 34 points followed by fifth placer Palau based Bobot Tan with 32 points and sixth placer Kingdom of Saudi Arabia based National Master (NM) Elwin Retanal who totes 30 points.-Marlon Bernardino-
