Grandmaster Rogelio "Joey" Antonio Jr. shows yet again why he's one of PH greatest athletes

Manila---Grandmaster (GM) Rogelio "Joey" Antonio Jr. shows yet again why he's one of the greatest athletes in the field of online blitz chess.

The 13-time Philippine Open Champion Antonio topped the M.A. Yabut Realty and Construction Birthday Chess Online Tournament at the lichess.org last Saturday (June 27, 2020).

Antonio, the pride of Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro won with undefeated score of 13 points on account of 11 wins and 4 draws in this 15 round Swiss tournament.

Claiming the second to third places, respectively were Sherwin Tiu and Fide Master (FM) Richard Alejandro Garcia Mortos of Cuba who each finished with 12.5 points.

Jerome Villanueva took solo fourth with 11.5 points.

National Master (NM)/engineer Robert Arellano, meantime led the group of ten pointers that include Jess Calabia, Woman Fide Master (WFM) Allaney Jia Doroy and Jasper Faeldonia.

Rounding up to the top 16 were International Master (IM) Barlo Nadera (9th), Arena Grandmaster (AGM) Marlon Bernardino (10th), Genghis Imperial (11th), Rheann Estareja Auza (12th), Ted Ian Montoyo (13th), Juan Carlos Presente (14th), Jayril Ramos (15th) and Robert Cacho (16th) with 9.5 points each.

Also receiving special awards in the recent free registration tournament organized by Bayanihan Chess Club in close cooperation with Mr. Arjie Bayangat were Bernardino (top Media), Arellano (top PECA executive), Doroy (top Lady), Nadera (top OJ chess team), Woman Candidate Master (WCM) Franiel Angela Magpily (top kiddy 11 years old and below) and Engr. Mark Anthony Yabut - (Top Pampanga).-Marlon Bernardino-
