EWRIGHT-EMONZON PREVIEW: WILL WRIGHT TOO BE ALL WRONG FOR MONZON?

Carlos Monzon vs Ronald ‘Winky’ Wright is Saturday’s hotly-anticipated fantasy match-up in the last semi-final of the ‘eWBSS Middleweight Legends Tournament’ broadcast at 7pm (UK) on World Boxing Super Series Facebook.

The winner will progress to face Sugar Ray Robinson, one of the greatest boxers of all time, on Sunday for the eAli Trophy, The Great Prize in eBoxing.

Ronald ‘Winky’ Wright’s 9th round quarter-final stoppage of Sugar Ray Leonard resonated on social media earlier this week. Promoter Lou DiBella, real-life DiBella, turned to Twitter to comment on the upset: “Stops @SugarRayLeonard? I love @RealWinkyWright…that’s my man, but tell me that this is an April Fools.”

Well, it did happen on April 1, April Fools Day, and it was as real as it can be considering it was a simulation fight on EA Sports ‘Fight Night Champion’. Wright floored Leonard twice in the 9th. – first with a straight right hand and then with a left to put one of the pound-for-pound best in boxing history out for the night, and out of the tournament. Wright was behind 76-74 on all three scorecards at the time of the stoppage.

Ronald ‘Winky’ Wright has plenty of history in boxing to make anything possible. Wright was a great all-round boxer with lots of flair, a two-time light middleweight champ most celebrated for conquering ‘Sugar’ Shane Mosley twice after Mosley had stripped Oscar De La Hoya of his WBA Super, WBC, and The Ring World light middleweight titles.

Carlos Monzon went the distance with Jake LaMotta in Thursday’s quarter-final of the ‘eWBSS Middleweight Legends Tournament’. The three judges scored it 115-112, 114-113, 115-113 in favour of Monzon, who rose from a 9th round knockdown of an absolute war between the pair of legends.

Monzon held the undisputed world middleweight championship for 7 years and is widely recognized as one of the best middleweights ever, and so his eSport character walks towards the ring as a big favourite tonight at 7 pm(UK) on World Boxing Super Series Facebook.

But the questions on everyone’s lips are: “Will eWright also be all wrong for eMonzon? Can he shock the world again?!”

The eWBSS tournaments, simulated on EA Sports ‘Fight Night Champion’, are created by the real World Boxing Super Series to provide some much-needed relief and entertainment for fight fans around the world during these testing times.
