Tournament No 1 seed Sugar Ray Robinson is ready to fight for the eAli Trophy on Sunday after Friday’s impressive KO victory over Jake LaMotta in the semi-final of the ‘eWBSS Middleweight Legends Tournament’.
Carlos Monzon faces tournament revelation Ronald ‘Winky’ Wright in the other semi-final on Saturday at 7pm (UK) on the World Boxing Super Series Facebook.
‘Bronx Bull’ LaMotta came in as a late substitute for Marvin Hagler to face Sugar Ray Robinson at the eBoardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey for a place in final. In real-life LaMotta fought the great Sugar Ray on six occasions – with only one victory for the ‘Ragging Bull’.
LaMotta’s eSport character found himself in the same trouble as the real boxer did against Robinson in the 40’s and 50’s. Robinson scored four knockdowns, the last one via a devastating right, to put LaMotta down and out in the middle of round seven.
The entire ‘eWBSS Middleweight Legends’ tournament will be streamed on the World Boxing Super Series Facebook page at 7pm (UK) every day from Monday March 30 until the final on Sunday April 5.
The eWBSS tournaments, simulated on EA Sports ‘Fight Night Champion’, are created by the real World Boxing Super Series to provide some much-needed relief and entertainment for fight fans around the world during these testing times.
