ANDALES IS NEW WBF 105 CHAMPION AFTER STOPPING CAITOM IN 5; AZARCON BAGS WBF INTERCONTINENTAL TITLE

CEBU CITY – ArAr Andales of Cavite used a suffocating offense to beat Rey Caitom of Cebu into submission in five rounds to snatch the vacant WBF world minimumweight title at the jampacked Robinson's Galleria Cebu activity center Monday night.
In the main event, Big Yellow's Clyde Azarcon secured a majority decision win over Mike Kinaadman to capture the WBF Intercontinental minimumweight title.
From the get go Andales (11-2-0, 3KOs) went straight at Caitom to engage the Cebuano in a phone booth fight but Caitom (9-1-1, 4KOs) used his boxing skill to counter effectively and may have won the opening round tightly. In the second stanza, the 20-year-old Andales continued his swarming attack against the 32-year-old Caitom where the older fighter, although connecting with some solid counters to the head, was outpointed with the sheer volume of punches thrown at him by Andales who at this time was beginning to hit his target. In the third round the younger Andales stalked Caitom from pillar to post throwing punches without letup that left Caitom grasping for air and may have at that moment realized his folly of coming back atop the ring after a 12-year absence. Although Andales himself absorbed vicious counters to the head and many blows below the belt, the underdog who brought Thai WBA champion Thammanoon Niyomtrong into deep waters, didn't seem to mind.
Andales was on a mission to destroy Caitom.
As the 4th round bell rang, Caitom appeared spent as Andales seemed to only grow stronger and continued his relentless attack hitting the hapless Caitom from all angles. It was only Caitom's pride and heart that allowed him to remain there standing trying to survive the onslaught in front of his silenced fans and townmates but the inevitable end seemed to be at hand. In the fateful 5th round, Andales delivered a series of blows to the body and head of Caitom capped with a lethal left to the liver that finally dropped Caitom to his knees. Caitom crawled a little distance but finally succumbed to the pain as Tony Pesons reached the count of 10 at 2:34 of the round for a KO victory by Andales who was swarmed by his team in jubilant celebration.

Judges scores before the stoppage saw Andales leading on the scorecards of Brembot Dulalas, 40-36 and Edgar Olalo, 39-37 while Atty. William Mañus had a mystifying score of 39-37 in favor of Caitom giving only the 4th round to Andales.
Andales now becomes the Philippines' 5th world champion. However the title does not make much weight as the World Boxing Foundation still struggles for recognition after it was originally founded in 1988 as the World Boxing Federation and morphed to its present form after it was acquired by Australian Mick Croucher in 2004. The other Filipino world champions are legendary WBA welterweight king Manny Pacquiao, IBF bantamweight champion Jerwin Ancajas, WBO bantamweight champion Johnriel Casimero and IBF minimumweight champion Pedro Taduran.
Azarcon throws an uppercut at Kinaadman.
Azarcon (17-3-1, 6KOs) finally bagged his first regional belt after failing in his first two attempts but not after being seriously challenged by veteran journeyman Kinaadman (7-14-2, 5KOs) who previously decked former world champion Vic Saludar during their ABF title fight last December in Cebu where eventually he was stopped in the 6th round. Azarcon started slow allowing Kinaadman control the fight in the opening rounds. However Azarcon upped his workrate starting in the 4th round engaging the game Kinaadman into a toe-to-toe battle that woke the crowd up. The fight was transformed into a battle of attrition where after twelve rounds, Azarcon got the nod of the two judges Noel Flores, 117-111 and Edgar Olalo, 116-112 while Angelito Piquero had 114-114 draw.
Clyde Azarcon celebrates (L-R): Referee Nick Banal, GAB official Arlene Olondriz, Big Yellow's May Tio, WBF president Mick Croucher, Big Yellow Seth Tio, and Trainer Pingping Tepora.
Below are the results of the undercards:

Elmo Traya sets up a punch against Ryan Quimbo.
