San Francisco, CA—The Golden State Warriors not used to being on the wrong end of a 10-game streak. So the joy was evident when the Warriors finally snapped their season long 10-game losing, defeating the Orlando Magic 109-95 in front of a sold out Chase Center in San Francisco. The biggest smile came from Stephen Curry, who hasn’t played much this season with a broken left hand. The former two-time MVP could be seen cheering on his teammates, who closed out the game after just blowing a big 4th quarter lead against Nuggets in the previous game.
The Magic scored the first 13 points of the game but rookie Jordan Poole’s corner three pointer midway through the first quarter help spark a Warrior 28-12 run to close out the first quarter. Poole ended with a career-high 21 points off the bench and fellow Rookie Eric Paschall had 20 points and nine rebounds. D’Angelo Russell, who scored a game high 26 points and dished out a season-high 12 assists, was impressed by the rookies. “Those guys were making big plays defensively and offensively,” Russell said, “I think they kind of carried the load throughout the game.”
Evan Fournier scored 12 points and Markelle Fultz led the Magic with 23 points. Aaron Gordon, who was born and raised in the Bay Area, scored 11 points in his only game back at his hometown. The Magic will conclude their six game road trip in Charlotte when they take on the Hornets on Monday.
Golden State improved to 5-2 this season when holding its opponent to 99-or-fewer points and travel to Portland to face the Blazers on Monday.
