Conor McGregor announced that he has been in negotiations to fight the eight-division world boxing champion Manny Pacquiao and Gareth A. Davies, a boxing columnist for The Telegraph and a commentator for talkSport and BT Sport, thinks the fight could happen this year 2020. "It's a fight that can be made," Davies said. "I think we'll see that fight. Pacquiao is at the end and a bout with McGregor is viable this year."

"Pacquiao makes sense, absolutely," Davies told Business Insider. "It's enormous." He forecasted that the match should it takes place could be as gigantic as the record breaking Floyd Mayweather fight with Pacquiao. Davies estimated that a Pacquiao-McGregor match would gross $200 million to $250 million and would financially secure Pacquiao who could retire after the fight.

Davies predicts a more humiliating defeat for the Irishman if the Pacquiao fight materializes because he believes the Filipino world champ would prevail by knockout. "It's a dangerous fight," he said. "Pacquiao knocks him out. And I mean knocks him out. It's a very dangerous fight for McGregor."

Meanwhile Pacquiao showed a video in World Boxing News wishing UFC star Conor McGregor well for his coming MMA fight with Donald Cerrone. Pacquiao was voted WBN Fighter of the Year 2019 by the fans recently and was shown together with international matchmaker Sean Gibbons. The eight-weight division title holder hopes wishes him good this weekend at UFC 246 and is open to a future fight with McGregor.

Gibbons told McGregor they would be willing to talk to "The Notorious" after he finished his bout with the "Cowboy". McGregor is back for the first time after 15 months of inactivity and will face "Cowboy" Cerrone in a welterweight clash at UFC 246 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday.

McGregor in an interview said that he likes to fight Pacquiao at the Las Vegas' Allegiant Stadium, which will be the new home of the NFL's Las Vegas Raiders. The stadium has a capacity of over 60,000 is still under construction and will officially open this summer. “That’s the new football stadium, is it? I would be honored to be a part of that event,” McGregor said.

“I would love to be the first combatant to fight in that arena. What a fight that would be against Manny, right? A small, powerful southpaw. I’d have to figure out the weight and these types of things, but it’s something that interests me no doubt," he added. He aspires to be the first MMA world champion to win a world boxing title.

Mayweather set a record of 50 victories and 0 loss, surpassing the 49–0 record of Hall of Famer Rocky Marciano, after stopping McGregor via 10th round technical knockout (TKO). Mayweather reportedly earned $275 million from the fight and McGregor got $85 million.

In the post-fight interview Mayweather said he had fought his final boxing match and would officially retire. "Any guy that's calling me out? Forget it," said the undefeated American. McGregor said in the post-fight interview that he would be willing to fight in boxing again and for the meantime he would return to the MMA and the UFC.
