NEW YORK – Fans and media here had anticipated Zion Williamson to descend upon the Big Apple for Friday's preseason game against the Knicks but to no avail. But as they say, the show must go on at the Garden.

Williamson was unable to join the trip to New York and stayed in New Orleans to recuperate on a knee injury aggravated during the Pelicans’ preseason game versus the San Antonio Spurs last Sunday.

Asked during the pregame media session, New Orleans coach Alvin Gentry assured everyone that Williamson remains upbeat for the upcoming season. “He will just be fine, no need to worry.”

Frank Jackson made a crucial free throw with 15 seconds left to power the visiting New Orleans past the Knicks 117-116 on Friday night’s preseason game at the Madison Square Garden.

Seven other Pelicans finished in double figures led by guard Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Josh Hart with 17 points apiece, small forward Brandon Ingram with 16 points on 5-for-12 shooting, Jahlil Okafor and Jrue Holiday with each contributing 13 points, shooter JJ Redick chipping in 14 points and Frank Jackson added 10 points on the Pelicans’ balanced scoring.

New York was led by Julius Randle with 20 points and 9 rebounds while rookie sensation RJ Barrett continues to impress with 19 markers.

The Pelicans went 41-for-84 for a 48.8% field goal conversion while New York had 44-for-93 for 47.3% clip.

The NBA’s regular season begins soon.
