World Boxing Organization President Paco Valcarcel previously hit the World Boxing Council for inventing several special championship belts. The WBC made a commemorative Mayan belt for Tyson Fury versus Otto Wallin match in Las Vegas and another one of the same name for Jaime Munguia versus Patrick Allotey bout in Los Angeles. Fury-Wallin or Munguia-Allotey fights had no relation with the WBC. The boxing body was also criticized when it awarded a "franchise title" to Mexican boxing icon Canelo Alvarez.

Valcarcel this time is lambasting the World Boxing Association for creating numerous belts. He was quoted by Boxing Scene: "My friend Gilberto Mendoza Jr. runs the WBA as he sees fit. What I don't understand is the complacency of certain boxing writers and TV commentators when it comes to the 42 so called world champions that the WBA currently has in 17 divisions, which have been designated as Super, Regular, Interim and Gold. For example, they currently have 4 champions in the heavyweight division. I don't understand it, and I'm not going to keep quiet about it either," Varcarcel said.

The WBO began after a group of Puerto Rican and Dominican businessmen left the WBA 1988 annual convention in Isla Margarita, Venezuela over some misunderstandings on the rules that should be applied. The WBO chose its first president Ramon Pina Acevedo of the Dominican Republic. Not long after its organization, the WBO held championship bouts all over the world.

WBO elected its next president in former world light heavyweight champion Jos? Torres of Ponce, Puerto Rico. Then Torres left in 1996, paving the way for Puerto Rican lawyer Francisco Valcarcel to become president and has held that position until now. The WBO's headquarters are based in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Former four-time heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield, who will be turning 57 on October 19, plans to follow Floyd Mayweather's footsteps. He told TMZ Sports that he is going to Japan for a charity exhibition bout in 2020. Holyfield last fought in May 5 2011, winning over Brian Nielsen by 10th round TKO. The former IBF, WBA, WBC and WBF heavyweight champion declared that he is keeping himself in good shape through the years he retired and is raring to go back to the ring.

The details regarding the exhibition fight are not divulged yet but Holyfield thinks his punches still got the knockout power. "The big thing is to give people in Japan the opportunity to see the only four-time heavyweight champion of the world," Holyfield was quoted by Boxing Scene.

Evander's 21-year-old son Evan "Yung Holy" Holyfield will make his pro boxing debut against Nick Winstead in a four round junior middleweight matchup.on the undercard to Canelo Alvarez vs. Sergey Kovalev, scheduled on November 2nd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. "Yung Holy" was quoted by TMZ Sports that he believes he can accomplish more than his father, who is a Hall of Fame awardee.

Several NBA superstars like Stephen Curry, James Harden, LeBron James, Kawhi Leonard, Damian Lillard, Anthony Davis, Draymond Green and Paul George among others, have signified their interest in joining the US Olympic basketball team in Tokyo, Japan next summer. USA Basketball managing director Jerry Colangelo said ?It?s great to see that the response is what it is." Previously he was furious that some big name players did not commit to Team USA and the Americans finished only at seventh place during this summer?s FIBA World Cup.

Some of the players who played for the American World Cup team also showed enthusiasm to rejoin the team like Sacramento?s Harrison Barnes, Milwaukee?s Khris Middleton, Boston?s Kemba Walker, Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, Brooklyn?s Joe Harris and Utah?s Donovan Mitchell. Mike Coppinger of The Athletic set the pay-per-view sales of the Errol Spence vs. Shawn Porter unification match at more than 300,000 and the final tally could probably reach under 350,000. But Top Rank promoter Bob Arum said his sources gave a different figure. ?Actual number was around 170,000,? Arum was quoted by Michael Woods of NY Fights. ?Cable out-performed satellite and digital on which my first estimate was based.? The Terence Crawford vs. Amir Khan WBO welterweight title fight did around 125,000 reported Arum.
