DAVAO CITY -- Jayr "The Dreamer" Raquinel landed a left cross to the face of Takuya Kogawa of Japan to score a knockout in the 8th round to keep his Orient and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) flyweight title Firday Aug. 23 at the Korakuen Hall in Tokyo.
It started with a bad call that was supposed to be a slip but it was called as knockdown for Raquinel instead. And so Raquinel received a mandatory count in the 1st round where he immediately stood up to resume the fighting.
From the 2nd to 7th rounds, it was all clear that Raquinel was leading the fight. The 7th round was stopped for a minute to fix Raquinel's left hand for excess tape.
The 22-year old Racquinel now has 11 wins with 8 knockouts against 1 loss.
Present to join Racquinel's victory were his manager Brico Santig and trainers Allan Alegria and Eric Santig. (Lito delos Reyes)
