PASCAL KNOCKS DOWN BROWNE 3 TIMES; OMOTOSO STOPS STEVENS

NEW YORK -- In a fight for the WBA light heavyweight interim and WBC light heavyweight Championships, Marcus Brown (23-1,16KOs) of Staten Island fought former WBC light Heavyweight Champion Jean Pascal of Canada by way of Haiti.
Not surprisingly, both fighters had the support of the crowd at Barclays. A large faction of the fans where there to support Brown as he is from NY, and a large faction from the Flatbush section of Brooklyn where thousands of Haitian immigrants and people of Haitian descent make their home were there to support Pascal.
Brown outworked Pascal for the first 3 rounds, but Pascal kept it close. Pascal scored a spectacular knockdown that appeared to really hurt Brown in round 4. Brown was in survival mode for the remainder of the round and clinched for dear life.
In round 5 it was "toe to toe" action with both men having their moments. Brown worked his way back into the fight in round 6. In round 7 Brown tried to step his game up and Pascal countered him and dropped Brown again in spectacular fashion.
After a slow count by the referee, the action resumed. Pascal went back to work and hurt Brown again. Brown clinched to Pascal and both fighters fell to canvas but it was still ruled a knockdown. The referee delayed the count so Pascal could get up and go to a neutral corner which helped Brown regain his bearings. After the 8 count the round was over.
When the 8th round started, Pascal sensing Brown was hurt and ready to be stopped, look to finish Brown off. After a barrage of punches by Pascal, the referee inexplicably called timeout right before Pascal was about to stop Brown to have the ringside doctor to examine Brown. After being examined by the ringside doctor, the fight was stopped due to an unintentional headbutt, as per the ringside doctor. Most in attendance thought it was a TKO victory for Pascal. What should of been a TKO victory for Pascal went to the scorecards. All Judges were in agreement. The fight was scored unanimously (75-74) and rightly so for Jean Pascal (34-6,21KOs). With this victory Pascal is once again a player at light heavyweight division.
On the undercard of the Kownacki vs Arreola card at Barclays in Brooklyn, NY, Wale Omotoso (28-4, 22KOs) of Nigeria knocked out hometown kid Curtis Stevens (30-7, 22KOs) of Brownsville in spectacular fashion. After Stevens suffered knockdowns in rounds 1 and 2 due "toe to toe" action where both men were throwing punches with "bad intentions", the referee had seen enough after Stevens was knocked down a 3rd time. Sensing Stevens had had enough, the referee waved it off at 1:28 of the 3rd round.
