Libranza (L) and Maldonado in action.
Filipino fighters John Dato and Genisis Libranza won during the Pacquiao vs Thurman undercard opener at the MGM Grand Garden Arena Saturday night (Early Sunday in Manila).
Having two coaches in a fighter?s corner?s can produce positive results. Coach Nonoy Neri opted to do away with a cutman and instead brought a second trainer in Genisis Libranza?s corner and it may have helped Libranza win his fight. Neri took a chance versus Carlos Maldaonado and requested Coach Rodel Mayol to work as a cutman, an act that is certainly out of the ordinary. But in this case it paid off.
Libranza (19-0-1, 10KO) stops Carlos Maldonado (11-4-0,7KO) of Los Angeles in round 4 of a scheduled 8 rounder. Time 2:54.
Dato drops Lopez.
In the first fight, John Dato of Santa Maria. Ca (12-01, 8 Ko) drops Juan Antomio Lopez of Dallas Texas (13-7-0 5KO). Dato continued to dominate Lopez until he landed a series of punches in round 5. Lopez fell to his knees and was counted out by the referee. Time 2:05.
