T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas:- This afternoon at this famed arena in glitzy Las Vegas, Golden Boy Promotions and it?s partners held the official weigh in for tomorrow?s blockbuster fight card.
Main event participants, Canelo Alvarez (51-1-2,35KO) and Daniel Jacobs (35-2-0,29KO) both made weight easy. Alvarez came in at 159.5 lbs. while Jacobs hit the scales at a sizzling 160lbs.
After the weigh-in the traditional face off was arranged but as soon as the two fighters got close Alvarez tried to intimidate Jacobs by sticking his face to Jacobs who took nothing of Alvarez? antics and a shoving match followed.
Of course, nothing happened other than the very poor demonstration of a failed hype for the fight.
There was absolutely no reason for the shoving match had Alvarez not tried to intimidate Jacobs the way he did. It was not a behavior expected from a champion of his caliber. Jacobs can?t be blamed for responding either. He too is a champion and no one should push him away like what Alvarez did.
The complete weigh in results:
Vergil Ortiz (12-0-0,12KO) 147lbs; Mauricio Herrera (24-8-0,7KO) 146.5 lbs.
Joseph Diaz Jr (28-1-0, 14KO) 129.5; Freddy Fonseca (26-2-1, 17KO) 130 lbs
(For the vacant WBA Gold Super Featherweight title)
Lamont Roach Jr (18-0-1,7KO) 129.5; Jonathan Oquendo (30-5-0, 19KO) 130 lbs
( For the WBO International and NABC Super Featherweight titles)
Sadam Ali (27-2-0, 14KO) 147 lbs; Anthony Young (20-2-0, 7KO) 146 lbs
( For the vacant USNBC Silver Welterweight Title)
John Ryder (27-4-0, 15KO) 167.5 lbs; Bilal Akkawy (20-0-1, 16KO) 167.5 lbs
