Former two-division world champion Jessie Vargas stopped veteran former world champion Humberto Soto in the 6th round of their 10-round scheduled super welterweight bout on the undercard of the Rungvisai-Estrada WBC superfly title fight Friday night (Saturday in Manila) at The Forum in Inglewood, CA.

Vargas (29-2-2, 11KOs) was cut in the left eye in round two from a legal punch by Soto but caught Soto (69-10-2, 37KOs) with a loaded right straight that sent the Tijuana resident Mexican to the seat of his pants in the sixth round. After beating the count Soto was pinned down in the corner by Vargas with a barrage of unanswered punches prompting Referee Thomas Taylor to step in to stop the contest for a knockout win by Las Vegas-based Vargas.

Vargas last held the WBO welterweight title that was snatched by Manny Pacquiao when the Filipino boxing legend defeated Vargas on Nov. 5, 2016 in Las Vegas.
