LOS ANGELES -- For the last three days since Manny Pacquiao arrived in LA to continue his intense training for his January 19th fight with Adrien Broner, I have not had a chance to visit with him. The Christmas Holidays took most of my time entertaining friends and relatives.
Now that all the activities are said and done, I had time to come and visit with the champion.
But alas, it's not my day to finally greet him and say hello and perhaps get a chance to fit his new made to order custom mouthguard.
Today, Wednesday LA Time, the champ decided to take a breather from his training.
Everyone that matters -- the trainers, media and his support crew were all at the Wildcard Gym as early as 1:30 PM. Everyone waited patiently hoping that the champ who had a grueling training at the park early in the day would show up soon and begin his gym routine.
But at a little before 4 o?clock, Fred Sternburg, Pacquiao?s publicist, came out from the gym and informed everyone that the champ will not be coming.
Apparently, Pacquiao had a pressing business to attend to so he decided to stay at home and get that done.
The fans that were at the gym premises waiting as well to see the champ were of course disappointed. ?Ano nangyari?? one asked. (What happened?)
Those who stayed behind to chitchat speculated that perhaps Pacquiao is still jet lagged and needed sleep. One even stated that perhaps he is tired from his grueling schedule.
Of course they were both wrong. Pacquiao simply decided to skip training for one day due to an important matter. Surely, a day off is truly deserved. Besides there are over three weeks to go and with what Pacquiao had done in Manila and GenSan, he is ready to fight even tomorrow. Sadly that can?t be said of Broner. The guy looks overweight and continuously gets himself in trouble.
Incidentally, the Pacquiao family members were at Disneyland today enjoying the happiest place on earth. They don?t have any concerns as to the status of Pacquiao?s training. They, as well as the training crew, are confident, all is well.
Pacquiao is scheduled to resume his training tomorrow morning.
