IM Oliver Dimakiling wins 2018 Diyandi Festival Open Chess Tournament

DAVAO CITY bet International Master (IM) Oliver Dimakiling is the recent victor in the 2018 Iligan Diyandi Festival Open Chess Tournament at Lai-Lai Garden, Pala-o, Iligan City last Sunday, September 23, 2018.

Dimakiling scored 8.5 points in the nine-round Swiss system format chessfest to emerge as champion and won the P25,000 cash prize and a trophy in the two-day event (Saturday and Sunday) organized by Mr. Gregorio "Greg" Villaflores of Metro Iligan Chess Club supervised by NA Mark John Gastar and CNA Ruben Cabading of Chess Arbiter Union of the Philippines and sanctioned by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines.

The second place went to Grandmaster (GM) Rogelio "Joey" Antonio Jr. who won P15,000 and a trophy after scoring 7.5 points.

The third place went to Fide Master (FM) David Elorta who won P10,000 and a trophy as prize.

Elorta accumulated 7 points, the same output of 4th place Jhonnel Balguin, 5th place National Master (NM) Joey Albert Florendo and 6th place Jayson Salubre.

Allan Cantonjos, Perkins Bayron and Mardonio Fuentes, meantime end-up for 7th to 9th places with 6.5 points.
Atty. Cliburn Anthony A. Orbe won the Top Iligan award as well Fide Master (FM) Victor Bruce Lluch and Carlito Daclan after scoring six points each.

Other woodpushers tallied six points each are Fide Master Nelson "Elo" Mariano, National Masters (NMs) Rustum Tolentino, Emmanuel Emperado and Levi Mercado, King Khimmy and Julius Dan Agustine Jublin. (Marlon Bernardino)
